Things to do in Nashville that locals might have missed

Nashville was recently named by Thrillist at the number 4 best place to spend a weekend. Our region’s thriving hospitality sector, including beautiful hotels and amazing restaurants, is a main draw for tourists. But even if you’ve lived in Nashville for years, here are some off-the-beaten path activities you might have missed.

OZ Arts Nashville

While Nashville may be known as Music City, our community is also home to an amazing art scene. Nowhere is this more apparent than OZ Arts Nashville, a contemporary art center that showcases “brave new art” in their space which used to be the CAO cigar factory. From interactive art pieces to live storytelling, dance theatre to gallery exhibitions, you are guaranteed to see something thought-provoking and original at OZ Arts Nashville.

Axe-throwing

Have you ever thrown a sharpened axe into a wooden target with enough force to make the blade stick? Ever competed against your friends, coworkers or family to see who has the best axe-throwing skills?

Believe it or not, there are two places to test your axe-throwing skills in Nashville!

BATL | The Backyard Axe Throwing League – BATL was the first axe-throwing venue in Nashville and is located in the hip east side of town. BATL has five locations in the United States with more on the way. The Nashville venue offers axe-throwing for private events and walk-in sessions.

Flying Axes – The newest axe-throwing adventure can be found in up-and-coming WeHo. This large space has plenty of bays to accommodate large parties and private events. Flying Axes has three locations in the U.S., including two in Kentucky. Their Nashville location just opened in April of 2019.

No matter which axe-throwing option you choose (and we suggest checking out both!) you are guaranteed to have fun.

Fort Houston

Fort Houston is a Nashville maker space, event venue and gallery located in Wedgewood Houston. Not only does Fort Houston offer a place for Nashville makers to craft using shared, state-of-the-art equipment, anyone can book a woodworking 101 class to learn more about carpentry and boost their DIY skills. Visit Fort Houston’s website to schedule your class today.

Gino’s East & The Comedy Bar

This newcomer to Nashville combines two wonderful things – pizza and stand-up comedy. You can enjoy a Chicago-style deep dish pizza, and then on Thursday through Saturday nights check out a stand-up comedy show. Located in hip SoBro, this should be a popular spot for tourists and locals alike.

Rudy’s Jazz Room

Billed as Nashville’s first and only exclusive jazz club, Rudy’s Jazz Room evokes classic New Orleans with great food, cocktails and the best Jazz musicians from Nashville, and across the world. Never experienced live jazz? You’re missing out, especially in Music City. You can catch live jazz at Rudy’s almost every night, except when they are booked for private events. Check out their website for a performance calendar.
