Nashpreneurs Partner Profile: Conexión Américas

Nashpreneurs Partner Profiles put the spotlight on organizations in Middle Tennessee that help entrepreneurs succeed. To be featured in an upcoming profile, email Jordan Taylor Sloan at jtaylorsloan@nashvillechamber.com.

Coexión Américas' Economic Integration Director, Martha Silva, discusses what the organization offers to entrepreneurs in the Nashville region and her tips for success.

What is Conexión Américas’ premier service?

Conexión Américas offers a comprehensive set of programs that touch all aspects of life, including direct services, advocacy and community development. Our programs help Latino immigrant families belong, contribute and succeed in the US.

Who are the target businesses that you work with?

We primarily serve Latino and other immigrant families living in Nashville and Middle Tennessee.

Why do you do what you do?

I like to take down barriers. It is well established that Latinos in this country face numerous barriers, including a lack of access to healthcare, quality education, housing and economic opportunities. Conexión Américas’ programs strive to remove those barriers.

What is your favorite part of your organization?

I love our Negocio Próspero (Prosperous Business) program, which covers the basics of starting a business. It promotes the entrepreneurial spirit and talent of aspiring Latino immigrant entrepreneurs. Many participants start or expand their business with this program, which helps them become stable and even employ others.

What advice do you have for Nashpreneurs?

Think outside the BOX. Nashville is growing so much, but it still doesn’t offer everything. A business idea comes from imitation, innovation or the needs of the market. Entrepreneurs should think heavily in market needs and USP (Unique Selling Proposition) to avoid failure by market saturation.

Why is the Nashville region a great place to be a small business?

Nashville is a blooming city with rich diversity. Our immigrant entrepreneurs always bring innovation and a certain uniqueness, which continues to enrich the city. However, there are still some market gaps to fill. Do you have the next great idea?
