How to get more visibility on the Nashville Chamber website

One of the benefits of being a Chamber member is exclusive online visibility to tens of thousands of visitors to nashvillechamber.com. Every time a user sees your business on our site, we track that visibility, so you know the return on your investment in Chamber membership.

To see how many people are finding your business on our website, login to your member portal and click the link labeled “value report” on the main menu in your web portal.

This will bring up a report that details your year to date visibility with two separate reports: total referrals by month and total referrals by type.

At the bottom of these reports, you can see “total referrals”, “total impressions”, “total leads” and “lead rate”.

  • Impressions refer to the number of times your business directory listing was displayed in a user’s search.
  • Leads refer to the number of times a user clicked on or took an action on your business directory listing- like viewing your details page, sending an email, seeing your location map or visiting your website.
  • Lead rate divides the number of leads by the number of impressions - giving you a percentage of people that took an action on your directory listing.

How can you tell if your lead rate is “good”? The average conversion rate depends on your industry – a report by Unbounce found that the average conversion rate can range anywhere from 2.8% to 6%. You can download their free report to learn more about conversion rates here.

What can you do if your lead rate is less than average? Improve your directory listing!

The way that people find your business on our directory is by using keyword searches. To check what keywords your business is using, click the “update my contact information” link in the main menu of the web portal.

Then click “edit my profile” underneath your business name.

On the pop-up box, click “directory listing” on the left-hand menu. This will bring up your directory listing information.

Here, you can edit your business’ description, short description and keywords so people can easily find you using our business directory. Use keywords that you would use when looking for your own products or services in a search engine. For example, we use words like “business organization”, “chamber of commerce”, “business association”, “networking”, “business events”, and even “grow your business”.

Also, make sure your directory listing is full of these keywords too. The more descriptive you are, the better your chance of attracting customers to your directory listing.

Make sure to click save at the bottom of the page! We will review your changes to make sure they are appropriate and get the updates on our website within a few days.

This strategy is called Search Engine Optimization or SEO. Click here to learn more about SEO and how you can use it to improve your visibility for all search engines, not just the Chamber website.
