Education is a cornerstone of Dollar General’s corporate focus and is central to its mission of Serving Others particularly as the Company celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation in 2018. From the communities and customers it serves to the approximately 134,000 employees in stores, distribution centers and corporate offices, Dollar General seeks to support educational initiatives at the national level.

Dollar General is deeply involved in the communities it serves and is an ardent supporter of literacy and education through the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, which awards grants each year to nonprofit organizations, schools and libraries within a 20-mile radius of a Dollar General store or distribution center to support adult, family, summer and youth literacy programs. Since its inception in 1993, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation has awarded more than $159 million in grants to nonprofit organizations, helping more than 10 million individuals take their first steps toward literacy or continued education.

This August alone, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation awarded more than $3.4 million to 915 schools and nonprofit organizations to support youth literacy programs. Grant applications for 2019 youth, summer, family and adult literacy programs will be available on January 2, 2019. For more information about the Dollar General Literacy Foundation and its grant programs, visit www.dgliteracy.com.

Dollar General also aims to invest in employee education, which includes tuition reimbursement and other tuition benefits for employees and their family members. Additionally, Dollar General store managers who complete the company’s Store Manager training program are eligible to receive up to nine semester hours toward the completion of an undergraduate degree after an evaluation and recommendation by the American Council on Education’s College Credit Recommendation Service (ACE CREDIT®). Employees may participate in specialized training to reach new professional heights through various company-sponsored programs.

With 15,000 stores located within five miles of 75% of the U.S. population and approximately 134,000 employees, Dollar General strives to advocate for literacy and education on a national level in the United States through its mission of Serving Others.
