Nashville has jumped significantly from number 20 on the 2017 list. "The goal of Forbes’ annual list of America’s fastest-growing cities is to give a holistic picture of places on the upswing. That means looking not just at job, population or output growth individually, but considering how these important measures and others come together. It means looking back to see which cities grew the most in 2017 and forward to project which cities will make strides in 2018," says Forbes.
The Milken Institute bases their rankings on job creation and economic opportunity. Nashville has seen growth in both areas and cracked the top 10 for this annual list.

Nashville hovered in 10th place the past two years before vaulting to fourth. It leads the country with a five-year jump of 27.1 percent in financial-activities (banking) jobs.
Job search site ZipRecruiter recently analyzed its database of more than 8 million active jobs, and ranked the 20 fastest-growing tech markets based on year-over-year data.
The Nashville Sounds are a big tourist draw to the region. Nashville Third Fastest Growing Large Metro Economy
Nashville ranked third among all large metros for its rapidly expanding economy. Recently released data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics illuminates the fastest growing economies, measuring by the percentage change in employment between 2015 and 2016. In 2016, U.S. employment grew 1.7%. Among large metros, the highest growth was found in Grand Rapids (4.4%), Orlando (4.2%). Nashville (4%), Charlotte (3.7%) and Salt Lake City (3.7%).

Southern Business & Development Magazine ranks states and peer group markets based on the capture of projects announced in the South meeting or exceeding 200 jobs and/or $30 million in investment. The SB&D 100 (the 24th annual) ranks each state and market through points earned based on the capital investment, jobs and the size of each project captured. Nashville earned "Major Market of the Year" for 2017 for its performance in calendar year 2016 with 165 points. The second highest ranking metro received 105 points.

Praxis Strategy Group analyzed employment data from the nation’s 53 largest metropolitan statistical areas from 2006 to 2016, with extra weighting for growth from 2014-16 to give credit for current momentum. Half of the ranking is based on employment growth at companies in high-technology industries and the other half is based on changes in the number of workers classified as having STEM jobs. Nashville ranked no. 7. Since 2006, Nashville added jobs in nearly every tech industry that the study tracked, led by 3,700 new jobs in systems design, 1,800 in data processing, and 1,100 in engineering services.

The Metro Monitor’s Inclusive Growth Index tracks the economic performance of the nation’s 100 largest metropolitan areas along three dimensions critical to successful economic development: growth, prosperity, and inclusion. From 2010 to 2015, only 14 of the 100 largest metro areas outperformed the average of their peers on composite scores for growth, prosperity, and inclusion. Nashville is one of the best cities in the country for investing in residential real estate in 2017, according to Forbes.com.The magazine named Nashville the eighth-best U.S. market in which to buy a home this year, citing the city's recent growth in population, jobs and home prices.
Nashville is making a play for the hottest housing market this year, heating up with a forecast of 4.3 percent home value appreciation, 1.1 percent income growth and a 4.0 percent unemployment rate, according to Zillow’s 2017 10 Hottest Housing Markets list. The list, determined using data from Zillow’s Home Value Forecast, income growth and unemployment rates, assigned a "hotness score" to the 100 largest metropolitan areas in the U.S, with Nashville ranking No. 1.

Nashville, the “gateway to the South,” is a must-visit city in 2017.
That’s according to Travel + Leisure magazine, which ranked Music City as one of the top 50 places in the world travelers should visit next year.
Other destinations on the list include Belfast,
